Back to Vienna, back to the Middle East Quartet

The tension in the Holy places needs to de-escalate as soon as possible. In a moment like this, it is crucial that the international community speaks with one voice. This is why the European Union has insisted so much on revitalising the Middle East Quartet. We met last month in New York, and we met again today in Vienna. Together we have called on both Israeli and Palestinian leaders to do all they can to restore calm and avoid provocations. Here is our statement.

There is little room for optimism today. But the unity of the international community can only give us hope. It worked with Iran, it can work again.
